The year in trends Part 2 – The Peplum

The Peplum! The last time it was big was back in the mid eighties, I can actually remember my mother wearing them. However this time around the flare or “flounce ” of the bottom isn’t as grand as the 80’s but definitely more grown up, dare I say more sophisticated. Peplum tops, skirts and dresses were seen everywhere in 2012 and there was no shortage of style – colour blocking, leather, lace, glitter, printed patterns…I could go on and on.

I’m not sure how I feel about the peplum, I don’t love it nor do I hate it. The idea of a top or dress adding volume to my curves instead of accentuating them really isn’t appealing to me. Which isn’t to say it wouldn’t flatter someone else. Check out Solange Knowles; she looks great in this yellow Rachel Roy Peplum dress.

These tops are nice but not enough for me to wear them, even the leather one.

And these dresses too!

The Peplum was a pass for me in 2012, but maybe you’re hoping it’ll be around in 2013! What do you think?

  1. That yellow dress is surprisingly pretty. Yellow is such a hard colour to do well, I think. As for the tops, they’re okay. I love the colour of that navy-black one on the top row but I’m not crazy about the bottom part of it.

Don't be shy, tell us what you think.
