Kimono Trend | Why You Need One In Your Life

I feel like I should have titled this post What Not To Wear In The Middle Of Summer. If you’ve been following my blog, then you know I love to wear a lot of black. So, when I got this kimono from Rachel’s ZoeBoxOfStyle, I knew that I wanted to wear it with something black (shocking) to make the floral pattern stand out on me. Which for me should be easy enough to accomplish and I had just recently picked up this cold shoulder dress. I thought – this is perfect.

Well, the only thing my friend Renee and I didn’t think about was the temperature. It was so hot and full sun that day that we lasted about 30 minutes at the park! Lol We tried about 3 or 4 different spots and we couldn’t stop sweating. Lesson learned – don’t shoot wearing all black when the temps are around 30 Celsius. Regardless of how thin the material is. Lol

Now on to this gorgeous kimono. Which is such a fun trend and super easy to wear. Just like the gingham trend, kimonos are popping up everywhere. And there are so many different types to choose from – florals to stripes and everything in between. One of the things I love about kimonos is that they can be worn with just about anything in your closet, from skinny jeans to dresses, cut offs or as a cover up over your swimsuit. The possibilities are endless!

Are you loving the Kimono trend?

P.S. Are you getting excited for NYFW?!! I’m pumped for it. I would love to know if you’re going to attend? I’m currently trying to plan my first visit to NYFW. Crossing my fingers and toes that it all works out.

Have a great week!

  1. Black dresses are always fantastic! And your kimono is very elegant. And ideal for this weather! Well at your place that is, here it’s not much of a summer!

  2. Kimonos are the perfect layer for summer though it sounds like you were still hot! 😉 I love the all black and the dark floral. So pretty!

  3. I LOVE this kimono on you, girl! You look so beautiful and chic in spite of you being hot and uncomfortable when taking these shots! As much as I adore this trend, I’ve yet to add one to my wardrobe; I have to! I think they’re so chic and work so well with nearly every outfit. Thanks for the inspiration, gorgeous, and I hope you’re having a great start to your week so far!

Thanks Shauna! I agree, they’re a great transition for fall!

  5. What are the ‘rules’ about wearing a long kimono if you’re on the shorter, curvier side. I love the look and trend of a long kimono but I’m barely 5”5 and curvy (size 6-8)?

I’m barely 5’5 too, I fake my height with heels. I have long legs but no height, so heels help. lol
The great things about Kimonos is that they are super versatile and can be paired with just about anything. I like the idea of adding a belt to define and accentuate your waist. Or wear it loosely over a belted dress. Also, wearing it over a monochrome tone will make you look taller. If you want you can email me ( jackie@stylemydreams.com) and I’ll send over some great options 🙂

  6. I absolutely love these pictures. You look gorgeous. The temps didn’t take much from you. Keep giving us more.

  7. Jackieeee! You’re preaching to the choir guuurl, I love a good ol’ kimono. I’ve got a floral print one too, but its maxi length. And I know what you mean about the sweltering heat and then trying to do a shoot and appear all cool n poised, tsigh…and oooh, you are planning to go to NYFW- keeping fingers crossed that it all works out. Ps LOVE your shoes! X
